Equine Evening is Full of Surprises!

Equine Evening is Full of Surprises! Meopham’s horse and pony owners enjoyed an evening full of surprises at the village hall, when Paul Jepson, chief executive and veterinary director of The Horse Trust was guest speaker at the Meopham Veterinary Surgery's client evening in Kent.

They were fascinated to learn of the massive investment the charity provides to research the many diseases that may afflict their horses.

In recent years The Horse Trust (formerly known as The Home of Rest for Horses) has given nearly £20 million to universities, research institutes and veterinary schools to help speed understanding of some of the most important equine diseases. All work is non-invasive and ethically approved. Most recently, the Trust has supported research into the causes of and treatments for strangles, navicular disease, sweet itch, colic, ragwort poisoning, grass sickness, osteoarthritis, cardiology, equine herpesvirus, laminitis, farriery, dentistry and recurrent airway obstruction (RAO).

"We also support projects which promote responsible horse ownership," Paul Jepson told the meeting. "This includes sponsoring the publication of many equine welfare leaflets distributed by the British Horse Society and includes the Equine Welfare Guidelines Compendium, the industry standard document on equine welfare."
