Shadow Succumbs to Colic

Shadow Succumbs to Colic Underscoring the need for urgent research into Colic, The Home of Rest for Horses lost one of its oldest residents to the ailment just before Christmas.

Shadow, the 14.1 hand bay gelding which had competed at a high level in both show-jumping and three-day-eventing came to the home in 1993.

"Shadow’s death brings into sharp focus the need for people to continue to fund the Echo Memorial Appeal which we launched last year," says chief executive Paul Jepson. "Colic can strike any horse at any time and is the worst nightmare for any horse owner. No matter how well the animal is loved and cared for or whether it is the highest-bred racing horse or the smallest of ponies - colic is dangerous and can kill. Every penny of the money we raise through this appeal is directed towards understanding the causes, management and treatment of colic."

As the UK's leading funder of research into equine ailments, The Home has already devoted thousands of pounds to research colic. It now wants to take the next step forward, find the missing pieces to the jigsaw and make colic history. Click here to help us beat the battle against colic.
