Or so the saying goes. But at The Horse Trust’s Home of Rest for Horses in Speen, Buckinghamshire, there is at the moment just an ever-growing mountain of muck.Until recently, the heap was cleared regularly by a contractor who supplied a nearby mushroom farm. But now the farm no longer produces mushrooms, the muck heap is growing on a daily basis.
“This is a problem that is never going to be resolved by enthusiastic gardeners,” says yard manager Shirley Abbott. “We are urgently seeking a commercial contractor who can clear the heap on a guaranteed regular basis – but, because we are a small charity with a large number of horses, we are looking for a new contractor to remove our heap of muck at a sensible price.
