Education

The Horse Trust implements a continuing education programme to promote responsible horse ownership and, as well as producing its own literature, works in partnership with many other equine organisations.

This website is a trusted point of information for experienced and inexperienced horse owners alike, offering guidance on the costs of ownership, steps to take when considering buying a horse, the responsibilities of ownership, the range of insurance policies available and the signs of some common ailments. Essential health care requirements are also explained, and owners can download the essential "First Aid for Horses".

The Horse Trust, working alongside the British Horse Society (BHS), publishes free leaflets promoting horse education which are circulated nationally via BHS welfare officers, riding stables, pony clubs and at the many county shows. The Trust also maintains close links with veterinary students through the British Equine Veterinary Association, and sponsors its congress and other activities.

The personal touch is never forgotten, and owners can find a friendly ear and practical advice on caring for their horses and resolving difficulties when they telephone the Horse Trust - from horse feeding issues to behaviour management and retirement or euthanasia.
