Office Volunteers Urgently Needed at The Horse Trust

Volunteers Needed

Sharon Pryde

The Horse Trust urgently needs more volunteers to help out in the charity's office in Speen, Buckinghamshire, particularly over the busy Christmas period.

"We urgently need volunteers to help with sending out Christmas cards and calendars, and various other office duties," said Susan Lewis, Marketing Manager at The Horse Trust. "We also need people with basic horse knowledge to help respond to enquiries from horse owners. With the credit crunch we've had a surge in enquiries, but only have one member of staff to handle all the enquiries, as well as other horse welfare work."

Working as a volunteer in The Horse Trust office will not only make a difference to the lives of horses, but is also a good way to brush up on your office skills.

Ms Sharon Pryde, 40, from Marlow, recently started volunteering in The Horse Trust office to improve her job prospects.

"I'm unemployed at the moment so wanted to do something useful. I think volunteer work makes a difference when applying for jobs as you're getting more skills and not getting rusty," said Sharon. "Also, when you're unemployed you don't see many people and can feel a bit isolated. It's really nice to come in and have a chat with the staff and other volunteers."

Sharon said she enjoys her volunteer role, as well as spending time with the horses at the sanctuary. "The Home of Rest is in a lovely location and everyone is very friendly. I love horses, so when I'm on my lunch break, I have a cuddle with them," said Sharon.

Office volunteers are needed to help with a variety of office duties including answering the telephone, data entry, filing and helping with mailings.
