Pony Finds New Home
Buckinghamshire charity The Horse Trust has found a new home for Vienna, a pony that was rescued earlier this year.Mrs Sarah Wiggins, 50, who lives in West Oxfordshire, offered a home to Vienna, a 13 year old, 14hh Palomino pony, as she needed a new companion for her horse Heston.
"I bred Heston, a 30-year-old three-quarter thoroughbred, from a baby," said Sarah. "We had to have Heston's other companion put to sleep as he had chronic laminitis and his quality of life was not as good as it used to be.
We had been managing the laminitis for some time but I could tell he was no longer happy. We didn't want Heston to be alone and needed to find a companion for him quickly."
Sarah found out about The Horse Trust rehoming scheme online and visited the sanctuary in October to meet Vienna. "I thought Vienna was lovely when I first saw her - very laid back, calm and pretty," said Sarah.
Vienna moved to her new home at the end of October and has been settling in really well since.
"Heston and Vienna are getting on wonderfully and have been mooching around in the sun together," said Sarah. "Vienna is far more interested in her food than her surroundings. Heston has buckets of veteran feed, which he takes a while to eat, while she polishes off her bucket of carrots and apples and wants more.."
Liane Crowther, Welfare and Education Officer at The Horse Trust, who manages the rehoming scheme, said: "We are glad that Vienna has had a happy ending after being rescued. We hope that she enjoys her new home and spending time with her new companion."
The Horse Trust's rehoming scheme operates within a 50 mile radius of the sanctuary. All horses and potential homes are visited to assess their suitability and the charity regularly visits the rehomed horse to ensure it is receiving an appropriate standard of care.
"I think that the rehoming scheme is wonderful," said Sarah "The staff are very helpful and the whole process has been very quick and efficient. I was very impressed with the speedy response when I first enquired."
The Horse Trust urgently needs more homes for horses from a variety of backgrounds. To offer a home to a horse, contact The Horse Trust on 01494 488 464 or info@horsetrust.org.uk
