The Home of Rest for Horses 'focus of
charitable duty now extends far beyond providing a safe
haven for elderly horses, ponies and donkeys. Never losing
touch with that core objective, it now embraces a wider
agenda which prioritises welfare, science and education.
The Trustees have felt for some time that the name "The Home of Rest for Horses" no longer reflects accurately the full nature
of the charity's mission statement - "Good health is good welfare. The Home promoted the health and welfare of horses through support for
needy cases, education and research to reduce disease and suffering". They have decided therefore to re-name the charity "The Horse Trust".
The new name encompasses our dedication to the welfare of the horse worldwide, to scientific research which will reduce pain and
suffering, to the education of horse owners, riders and trainers and the continuing care for those horses retired with us at Westcroft Stables.
However, the Home of Rest for Horses will not disappear. Westcroft Stables will continue to operate as The
Home of Rest for Horses, providing an exemplary centre of excellence for the housing and husbandry of the 100 or so horses in our care.
