17.1hh Chestnut gelding born 2002

Captain Greatgun, more commonly known as 'Gozza', a hugely popular horse who served the whole of his working life in London, initially starting with The Household Division, before transferring across to the Kings Troop, Royal Horse Artillery.

Horses serving in Household Division need particularly calm temperaments like our beautiful, gentle girl Burniston. Gozza was deemed a touch too excitable for this job, hence his transfer to the far livelier role of a Charger with the King's Troop. He led a full and successful career at the Troop where he was used on all State and Ceremonial occasions as well as performing in the Musical Drive as an Officer's Charger. He has served in parades including the Queen’s Birthday Salute, State Visits, State Opening of Parliament as well as Queen’s Life Guard and other Royal Salutes.

After 10 years of faithful, and often fun, service Gozza had to retire early from military life due to some veterinary issues. His last parade was in front of Her Majesty The Queen for Her 90th Birthday at Royal Windsor in May 2016.

After this he spent an extended period of time receiving veterinary treatment at the Royal Army Veterinary Corps’, Defence Animal Centre before finally being signed off as fit enough to come to us and live out what we hope will be a long and happy retirement with us here.
