All hail the mighty Caesar! This striking Shire worked for Thames Valley Mounted Branch. Caesar was their largest police horse and was used as the Sergeant’s horse due to being extremely brave and imposing. His duties included day to day patrolling of the Thames Valley region.  He has attended many public order commitments and assisted other forces as far afield as Devon & Cumbria. Many of these have seen large violent crowds attacking police including the horses. Described as big and bold, Caesar has been injured on several occasions by missiles and objects during his working life. His confident presence made him a very successful security horse, providing Close Protection security to HM The Queen’s Royal Procession on the course at Royal Ascot for 10 years & public order deployment each evening. He has also attended many Right Wing demos & marches across the UK & been deployed to various TVP locations to deal with ‘copycat’ disorder resulting from the London riots in 2011. Caesar has also been involved with various security operations involving the current government & counter terrorism patrolling at specific target locations.  This “gentle giant” made his final public appearance at the Thames Valley Police open day at Sulhamstead, near Reading, on 6 August 2016 where he was untacked for the final time in a special retirement ceremony. Caesar has a large following on social media and is loved by members of the public thanks to his striking appearance and loveable character. This bold beauty has a particular penchant for strawberries, and was bought a punnet as a gift on his retirement when he arrived here to The Horse Trust in August 2016. It is clear that he will be missed by all of those who knew him at TVP and Sergeant Spencer Kervin who rode him for over 3 years noted “He will be remembered as a very honest horse.  What you see is what you get, a huge gentle giant who was a natural born leader.”
