Lily and Dinky
The Home of Rest for Horses in Buckinghamshire has welcomed two new
residents to the fold. Lily and Dinky were found wandering along the
narrow road which winds through Bradenham Woods near The Home. The
obvious danger to both motorists and ponies is dreadful to contemplate,
so when a concerned passer-by notified The Home, Head Groom, Charli
Pardon was quick to respond. "Both ponies were in a very distressed
state and we acted immediately and welcomed them to The Home."
Lily is a small, grey cremello standing at a proud height of 13 hands,
whilst Dinky is a 36 inch, chestnut Shetland with enormous dark eyes.
The ponies have both been aged by The Home’s resident veterinary surgeon
at probably around 25 years old. They had been badly neglected - both
were literally crawling with lice and were terribly thin. The two mares
have sweet temperaments and although Lily is a bit shy, Dinky can cope
with any amount of love and attention!
Their owner has been traced and the ponies have now been signed over to
The Home, thus securing their future and ensuring that they’ll be given
all the love, care and attention that they need for the rest of their lives.
Chief Executive of The Home of Rest for Horses, Brigadier Paul Jepson, is
pleased that The Home has once again been able to rescue two elderly horses
whose fate would otherwise have been far from certain.
