08/02/2010 Join in the Half-Term Fun at The Horse Trust

The Horse Trust is running a variety of activities during the Spring half-term at its sanctuary in Speen, Buckinghamshire.

Staff at The Horse Trust will be running activities from 2pm onwards between Monday 15th and Sunday 21st February. A shoeing demonstration will take place on Wednesday 17th; on other days staff will be demonstrating various aspects of horse care such as grooming.

Staff will also be holding 'meet and greet' sessions where visitors can learn more about the individual horses, ponies and donkeys living at The Home of Rest. The Horse Trust provides lifetime sanctuary to more than 100 horses, ponies and donkeys from many different backgrounds, including rescue cases and retired working horses from the police and army.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to meet recent arrivals at the sanctuary, including Weller and Cicero - two police horses from Greater Manchester Police that arrived at the end of January.

"Visiting The Horse Trust is a great half-term activity for children of all ages and in all weathers!" said Charlotte Pardon, Head Groom at The Horse Trust. "We will be running lots of fun and educational activities over half-term and hope you will join us!"

The Horse Trust's Home of Rest for Horses is open every day of the week between 2pm and 4pm. Entrance to the sanctuary is free, but donations are welcomed to enable the charity to meet its running costs. It costs £17 to pay for all the costs of looking after a horse for a day, including feed, veterinary bills and farrier costs.
