Come along and enjoy an “Egg-tastic” day at The Horse Trust

The Horse Trust is running a variety of activities during the Easter holidays at its sanctuary in Speen, Buckinghamshire, including an Easter Egg Hunt, competitions and demonstrations.

During the Easter Holidays (30 March – 13 April), the Home of Rest for Horses will be open to visitors Thursday to Monday, between 2 and 4pm. On Easter Sunday (8 April), the charity will be holding an Easter Egg Hunt, which is open to children aged 8 and under, for a small charge of £2.00.

“After the huge success of our first ever Easter Egg Hunt last year we have been inundated with requests to hold another one this year.” saidSusan Lewis, Marketing Manager at The Horse Trust. “We are really pleased how popular this annual event has become and its great to see the enthusiasm and energy of the children as they rummage through the hay bales in search of their treasure”.

The charity is expecting this to be a very popular activity and so will be running two hunts on Easter Sunday afternoon – one at 2.15 pm and one at 3.15 pm.  Each participating child will go home with their “chocolate” treasure and a very special Horse Trust goody bag.

As well as the Easter Egg Hunt, the charity will be running various other activities over the Easter holidays including demonstrations, “have a go at grooming” sessions and a quiz for children (with prizes for the winning entries). Staff will be demonstrating various aspects of horse care, such as bathing and clipping. Demonstrations from our local farrier are also planned. Please contact The Horse Trust office on 01494 488 464 for more information on daily activities.

To make the most of the beautiful and peaceful surroundings why not bring along a picnic which can be enjoyed whilst sitting comfortably at our rustic, picnic tables.  Hot and cold drinks are also available in our Visitors Centre and Beechdean ice creams are on sale in our Barn Shop alongside our small range of gifts and cards.

Visiting the sanctuary is a great opportunity to meet newly arrived, working horses such as Ross from Humberside police.  Ross, a 17 hh, chestnut gelding has worked every day of his 15 years service, seven days a week, 365 days a year and completed more than 5,470 shifts.

Ross, however, has come to The Horse Trust suffering from Cushings Disease, a manageable condition of the pituitary gland which requires constant medication, a liver complaint which necessitates regular treatment and he also needs a daily supplement for his stiff and arthritic joints.

Ross’ veterinary bill alone costs The Trust £105 per month on top of his £12 per day bed, board and lodgings.  A regular donation to The Horse Trust helps us better plan the costs of the care of horses such as Ross who has dedicated his life to serving so many people during his long and dedicated career.
